Abstract

In the third quarter of 2009, the Greater Chinese notebook PC industry's shipment volume is expected to have reached 32.19 million units, representing a 17.9% sequential growth despite of the fact that the industry's shipment performance did not live up to expectations due to the shortage of key components. Several factors either boosted or restrained the industry's third-quarter shipment performance. On the demand side, the favorable factors included the back-to-school demand in North America and Western Europe and advanced shipments in anticipation of peak season demand during the Chinese October holiday. On the supply side, the favorable factor included the increased shipment share of CULV processor-built notebook PCs as CULV-based notebook PCs have gained high market acceptance. The shortage of ODD (Optical Disk Drive) pickup heads, however, continued to affect several notebook PC models' shipments in the third quarter.
